Smith River - 08/20/2003

Not much happening on the Smith at this time and probably won't see much action until after the first couple of fall rains.

Klamath River - 08/29/2003

The Salmon fishing on the Lower Klamath is just starting to happen and as the big weekend approaches we should see some fantastic fishing. The Salmon are really starting to pour into the mouth and moving up river. This week a water release from the Trinity River at Lewiston has dropped the tempatures and increased flows to almost perfect conditions for the Klamath. I would make a guess that we will see some pretty good if not fantastic Fishing in the up coming weeks.

The Steelhead are also in the system and the cooler temps have put them back on the bite. We have not seen a big half pounder run as of yet but there are lots of adult summer run up to 10 lbs in the lower section. Fly fishermen and drift fishermen are both doing well fishing the riffles and faster slots from Klamath Glenn to Blue Creek.

If you haven’t made plans to fish the Klamath, now is the time, this is one of the most fun and productive rivers on the North Coast.

Trinity River - 02/25/2003

The Trinity should be in great shape by this weekend, there has been very little pressure and lots of fresh Steelhead headed that way. I expect to hear of some pretty good numbers and big fish coming from the Trinity very soon. Another river to keep on your watch list.

Mad River - 02/25/2003

The recent rains really put the Mad high and muddy but clear weather and the numbers of Steelhead available should make for a lot of catching by this weekend. The one thing that turns fishermen away from the Mad in the muddy water, don’t let that happen to you, the Mad is one of those rivers that fishes pretty good even in muddy conditions. I would guess that there will be heavy pressure on the Mad this weekend, but that usually means that fishing is pretty good.

Eel River - 02/25/2003

The South Fork of the Eel is coming into shape and should be perfect by Thursday. I haven’t received any reports on how well they have been doing but it’s my guess that if not great by now will soon be.

The Eel is another river to watch before making a long journey further north, make sure to check local fishing regulations; they can be a little tricky here.

Not much happening on the Chetco, I would expect to see some Salmon in the estuary in late Sept.

Pistol River - 01/09/2003

The Pistol is in good shape turning to low and clear, the fishing has been spotty with some locals doing very well. This can be a great river if there isn’t much pressure. Like the Elk is also is a later run river and should turn on after the next big rain.

Rogue River - 02/25/2003

The Lower Rogue is just starting to come into shape and good numbers of fresh Steelhead are being taken from Foster Bar down stream. The conditions should keep improving into the weekend as will the catching.

This is another river that will be in prime shape and should be kept on your watch list.

The Middle Rogue, Grants Pass area is in good shape with a few fish be caught, still about a week or two early for the big runs to show up but when the do this is one of the places to be.

Elk River - 02/25/2003

Last weeks rain brought the Elk into great shape but the fishing was good to fair, I think just in between runs, it is now to low and clear conditions and pretty much bank fishing only. Bank fishermen knowing the river and its access points can still do very well. I wouldn’t make a trip to the Elk until more rain or you know of private access.
